Density of Fast Food Outlets around Educational Facilities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Geospatial Analysis

Background: Childhood obesity remains a public health issue globally. The latest estimate from the World Health Organization showed that over 340 million children and adolescents aged 5–19 were overweight or obese in 2016. Objective: Our study aimed to assess density of fast food outlets around educational facilities Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methods: We employed geospatial quantitative analyses using data on (from surveys conducted between November 2019 May 2020) Riyadh city. Data ArcMap 10.6 Stata 15 compared within 500 m 500–1000 facilities. Results: found high Nearly 80% twelve-minute walking five-minute driving distances schools, nearly 70% all had at least one outlet buffer. also densities both areas closer farther away In addition, was significantly higher private schools government girls-only both-gender than boys-only schools. Conclusion: There is Effective policies are needed help reduce potential exposure among young people Arabia other countries with similar settings.
